Stage 4- Writing the Research Paper*

Even for native speakers of English who write very well in other styles, one notices an enormous improvement in the first drafts from the first to the last chapter written.

The pressure involved is intimidating and can lead to an unsuccessful paper.

Do not expect to come up with a fully formulated thesis statement before you have finished writing the paper. The thesis will inevitably change as you revise and develop your ideas—and that is ok! Start with a tentative thesis and revise as your paper develops.

Stage 6- Revising the Research Paper

Avoid, avoid, avoid generic arguments and formula statements. They work well to get a rough draft started, but will easily bore a reader. Keep revising until the thesis reflects your real ideas.

Hi Liz,
I like your teaching standard and methods. I have written introduction something different, could you please let me know anything is wrong except not included the opinion.

Tip: The point you make in the paper should matter:

Speakers often overlook the part about grasping the audience’s attention. They just start talking without creating any interest for the audience to want to listen. The key point to keep in mind here is that if you don’t grab your group’s attention up front, you may not have it for the rest of your presentation. Following are some useful opening techniques that gain the audience’s attention in a positive way:

Your conclusion is the final paragraph of writing in an assignment. It must summarise (very briefly) every important idea you have discussed in your work as well as draw conclusions based upon the evidence you have presented. You need to make sure that you have directly answered the question. It is always useful to link your conclusions back to the essay title.

How does it fit into the broader world of your discipline?

Developing an organized presentation starts with your introduction. The introduction opens your speech. The common way in which many presenters start their talks — “My name is . . .” or “Today I’m going to talk to you about . . .” — is not much of an introduction. The purpose of a good introduction in a formal presentation is to achieve three goals:

Go to the library and read several thesis introductions.

Use your own words in thesis statements; avoid quoting. Crafting an original, insightful, and memorable thesis makes a distinct impression on a reader. You will lose credibility as a writer if you become only a mouthpiece or a copyist; you will gain credibility by grabbing the reader with your own ideas and words.

Of course you write down the title, authors, year, volume and pages.

8. Read through someone else's research proposal. Very oftena real stumbling block is that we don't have an image in our mind of whatthe finished research proposal should look like. How has the other proposalbeen organized? What are the headings that have been used? Does the otherproposal seem clear? Does it seem to suggest that the writer knows thesubject area? Can I model my proposal after one of the ones thatI've seen? If you can't readily find a proposal or two to look at, askyour adviser to see some. Chances are your adviser has a file drawer filled withthem.

How relevant do they have to be before you include them?

If you’re not comfortable as a joke teller, go with another introduction technique. There’s nothing worse than watching someone fumble in trying to tell a joke.

Please write for the benefit of that researcher.

This section describes the main elements of a written thesis at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. Although the specific structure described here is most relevant for empirical theses, much of the advice is also relevant for theoretical work. Please note that the formal requirements vary between different disciplines, and make sure to confer the guidelines that apply in your field.

9. Make sure your proposal has a comprehensive review of the literatureincluded. Now this idea, at first thought, may not seem to make sense.I have heard many students tell me that "This is only the proposal.I'll do a complete literature search for the dissertation. I don't wantto waste the time now." But, this is the time to do it. The rationalebehind the literature review consists of an argument with two lines of analysis: 1) this research is needed, and 2) the methodology I have chosen is most appropriate for the question that is being asked. Now, why would you want to wait? Now is the time to get informed and to learn from others who havepreceded you! If you wait until you are writing the dissertation it is toolate. You've got to do it some time so you might as well get on with itand do it now. Plus, you will probably want to add to the literature reviewwhen you're writing the final dissertation.
