Nano- and micrometer calcium carbonate particles can be synthesized by a variety of methods, including controlled gas diffusion, colloidal/microemulsion systems, sonochemistry, hydrothermal synthesis, etc. The simplest approach consists of the precipitation of calcium carbonate from solutions containing inorganic salts as a source of calcium(II) and carbonate ions. In this case, the precipitation of calcium carbonate involves a complex set of processes of crystal nucleation and growth that is very sensitive to the chemical environment. The diverse atomic arrangements found in calcium carbonate materials (three crystalline polymorphs: calcite, vaterite, and aragonite; two hydrated metastable forms: monohydroxycalcite and calcium carbonate hexahydrate; and an unstable amorphous phase) can therefore be controlled by the addition of appropriate crystallization modifiers. These include metallic ions, surfactants,, biopolymers,,- and synthetic polymers.-,,- Indeed, crystallization control is a critical requirement in the synthesis of many important materials.
CH 611 is an advanced inorganic graduate course with a focus on transition metal organometallic chemistry (prerequisite CH 370 or equivalent). As an active participant in this course you will learn about the structural and electronic properties of transition metal organometallic complexes as well as their catalytic applications.
Journal of Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers and Materials ..
This online issue on the theme “Synthesis in Biological Inorganic Chemistry” focuses on the synthesis of metal centers that occur in bioactive molecules. Inspiration for many subjects within this topic comes from chemistry occurring at metalloprotein actives sites. Synthetic models require creative ligand design to generate single or multiple metal centers in order to mimic structure and reactivity in metalloenzymes.
American Journal of Inorganic Chemistry (AJIC) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that considers articles on all aspects of AJIC, the goal of this journal is to provide a platform and global forum for scientists and academicians all over the world to promote, share, and discuss various new issues and developments in different areas of AJIC. This journal targets researchers, scientists, and students who seek to advance the knowledge related to its scope.
All submitted manuscripts must be in English and will be processed to a rigorous and fair peer-review. Accepted papers will immediately publish online. The original papers should include but are not limited to the following subject areas of AJIC :

For anyone working in inorganic chemistry, The Inorganic Syntheses series is the complete and up-to-date review of the area, providing the detailed foolproof information needed by lab chemists on procedures for the preparation of important and timely inorganic compounds. With recent volumes covering the latest hot topics and developing areas such as organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry and ligands, co-ordination chemistry and applications in material science, this series is also of use to organic and organometallic chemists, biochemists and materials scientists.
The volumes in this continuing series provide a compilation of current techniques and ideas in inorganic synthetic chemistry. Includes inorganic polymer syntheses and preparation of important inorganic solids, syntheses used in the development of pharmacologically active inorganic compounds, small-molecule coordination complexes, and related compounds. Also contains valuable information on transition organometallic compounds including species with metal-metal cluster molecules. All syntheses presented here have been tested.
