The Paul N. Rylander Award of the Organic Reactions Catalysis Society (ORCS) has been awarded a prize for Catalysis in Organic Chemistry since 1988. He is named after Paul N. Rylander , who was also the first prize-winner. The prize is endowed with 1000 dollars and is given annually (at the biennial conferences of the company).

In 1992 the Organic Reactions Catalysis Society (ORCS) created the Murray Raney Award “for contributions in the use of sponge metal catalysts in organic synthesis”. The award is given out every two years at the annual ORCS conference.

Kürti and Czakó use a two-page format that uses four-color graphics to address 250 reactions selected for inclusion based upon their applicability to modern natural products synthesis. Each named reaction is concisely introduced, mechanistically explained, and then set in context with example applications involving the production of natural products.

At the biennial conference, the Paul N. Rylander award, established by ORCS in 1988, and the Murray Raney award, established by ORCS in 1992 and sponsored by Grace Davison, are presented to scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the field of catalysis as it applies to organic synthesis. The Russell Malz Award, also sponsored by ORCS is given to an individual for exceptional services to the Society.

Scott E. Allen was born in 1984 in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. He received his B.S. in chemistry from Penn State University, where he performed undergraduate research with Dr. Xumu Zhang. He then joined the laboratory of Dr. Marisa C. Kozlowski at the University of Pennsylvania, where his research focused on computational organic chemistry studies of N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed reactions in collaboration with Dr. Jeffery Bode at the ETH. Upon completion of his Ph.D. in early 2013, Scott joined the laboratory of Dr. Albert Bowers at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as a postdoctoral associate.

Takeshi Naota received his bachelor's degree in 1980, master's degree in 1982, and Ph.D. degree in 1988 from Osaka University. His Ph.D. studies on the development of catalytic reactions promoted by ruthenium complexes were carried out under the direction of Professor Shun-Ichi Murahashi. He joined Osaka University, Faculty of Engineering Science, as a research associate in 1983, and was promoted to associate professor of Graduate School of Engineering Science at the same university in 1995. From 1990 to 1991, he did postdoctoral work with Professor Barry M. Trost at Stanford University. He received the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists in 1991. His current research concerns the studies on synthesis, structure, and reactivities of organometallic compounds bearing catalytic activities for various modes of carbon−carbon bond formations.

opportunities for members to present their work, and facilitating dissemination
of scientific knowledge.

Shun-Ichi Murahashi received his bachelor's degree in 1961 and master's degree in 1963 at Osaka University, and immediately was appointed as Assistant Professor in the laboratory of the late Professor I. Moritani at the same university. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1967 under the guidance of Professor I. Moritani. Dr. Murahashi spent postdoctoral years with Professor R. Breslow at Columbia University in 1968−1970. He was promoted to associate professor in 1972 and full professor in 1979. His research interests have been mainly in the exploitation of new synthetic methodologies, particularly in the application of organometallic chemistry directed toward organic synthsis. He has discovered many practical catalytic reactions for organic synthesis. Other research interests include the relationship between structure and reactivity of reactive intermediates such as carbenes. He received the Chemical Society of Japan Award in 1995, and was the Editor in Chief of from 1995 to 1998.
