25. Another simple rule - if you have a whole series of very similartables try to use similar words in describing each. Don't try andbe creative and entertaining with your writing. If each introduction anddiscussion of the similar tables uses very similar wording then the readercan easily spot the differences in each table.
10. With the ready availability of photocopy machines you should beable to bypass many of the hardships that previous dissertation researchershad to deal with in developing their literature review. When you read somethingthat is important to your study, photocopy the relevant articleor section. Keep your photocopies organized according to categories andsections. And, most importantly, photocopy the bibliographic citation sothat you can easily reference the material in your bibliography. Then, whenyou decide to sit down and actually write the literature review, bring out yourphotocopied sections, put them into logical and sequential order, and thenbegin your writing.

“The Fly your Thesis! programme is a very interesting opportunity for students to be trained to the various needs required for a real space project. Beyond the proof of concept which is commonly the main content of a PhD in a scientific lab, FYT programme allows the selected team to increase the TRL (Technological Readiness Level) of their project and to handle the various aspects which are not commonly addressed in a classical PhD i.e. team building, safety requirements: the various discussions and exchanges with ESA Education Office and Novespace teams is a benefit experience for students on "What is the real world”, deadline constraints and more. I would like to thank ESA Education Office for such a wonderful programme and I would like to encourage ESA to maintain such a programme. Indeed I am completely persuaded that it is a long term very good investment for ESA: the PhD students, trained though FYT programme, will be particularly pertinent to manage future European space projects."

This experiment aimed to carry out the test of a new promising technological system for attitude control of cubesats. This system was composed of a cluster of six mechanical actuators (Single-Gimbal Control Moment Gyros) and a new steering law for these actuators. Control Moment Gyros, already used in some satellites or space stations, have proven to be very power-efficient and have more torque capabilities than other actuators for the same mass. For micro-satellites or cubesats, their use is not common because of their mechanical complexity, the difficulty of steering them, and few systems are commonly available in the market.

21. The one area where I would caution you about using a word processoris in the initial creation of elaborate graphs or tables. I've seen too many studentsspend too many hours in trying to use their word processor to create an elaborate graph that could have been done by hand in 15 minutes. So, the simple ruleis to use hand drawing for elaborate tables and graphs for the early draft ofyour dissertation. Make sure your data are presented accurately so your advisor can clearly understand yourgraph/table, but don't waste the time trying to make it look word processor perfect at this time. Once you and your advisor agree upon how the data should be graphically represented it is time to prepare "perfect" lookinggraphs and tables.
27. If you are including a Conclusions/Implications section in yourdissertation make sure you really present conclusions and implications.Often the writer uses the conclusions/implications section to merely restatethe research findings. Don't waste my time. I've already read the findingsand now, at the Conclusion/Implication section, I want you to help me understandwhat it all means. This is a key section of the dissertation and is sometimesbest done after you've had a few days to step away from your research andallow yourself to put your research into perspective. If you do this youwill no doubt be able to draw a variety of insights that help link yourresearch to other areas. I usually think of conclusions/implications asthe "So what" statements. In other words, what are the key ideasthat we can draw from your study to apply to my areas of concern.

17. The major myth in writing a dissertation is that you start writingat Chapter One and then finish your writing at Chapter Five. This is seldomthe case. The most productive approach in writing the dissertation is tobegin writing those parts of the dissertation that you aremost comfortable with. Then move about in your writing by completing varioussections as you think of them. At some point you will be able to spreadout in front of you all of the sections that you have written. You willbe able to sequence them in the best order and then see what is missingand should be added to the dissertation. This way seems to make sense andbuilds on those aspects of your study that are of most interest to you at any particulartime. Go with what interests you, start your writing there, and then keep building!

28. Potentially the silliest part of the dissertation is the Suggestionsfor Further Research section. This section is usually written atthe very end of your writing project and little energy is left to makeit very meaningful. The biggest problem with this section is that the suggestionsare often ones that could have been made prior to you conducting your research.Read and reread this section until you are sure that you have made suggestionsthat emanate from your experiences in conducting the research and the findingsthat you have evolved. Make sure that your suggestions for further researchserve to link your project with other projects in the future and providea further opportunity for the reader to better understand what you havedone.

The students experienced 93 parabolas in total, equivalent to about half an hour of microgravity. During the first week, the students set up their experiment aboard the NOVESPACE’s Airbus A310 ZERO-G and, assisted by NOVESPACE and ESA Education, were able to successfully integrate their hardware on the plane and get ready to fly. Nothing was left to chance. Every protocol, every procedure was studied up to the smallest detail. The students were finally ready to live the dream of seeing their creation (and themselves!) floating around in microgravity. This year, the experiments were very diverse ranging from material science to psychology, all trying to dissect the role of gravity in their respective fields of research.
